Now What?
My parents left yesterday and I'm always a little sad when they leave. My dad was able to fix a problem with our car too about a couple of hours before we left for the airport. I love it when my daddy fixes things for me. I think it makes him feel good too that I still need him...which I do cause I don't know a carburetor from an engine valve. Yeah, I don't know why they make you work on a lawnmower engine in junior high mechanic shop. It's not like we're going to constantly have problems with lawnmowers later in life. Anyway, I found out that my university will not be offering the grad program I want next year. They didn't really let anyone know about it either. So, it looks like I'll be attending another college in the area, one that costs almost twice as much. At least they have the program. I will be setting up a meeting with that program's advisor soon. I will also be painting my father-in-law's house, and maybe helping a friend with her new house. H is hinting at me becoming a real estate agent. Not sure if that will happen. Will keep you updated though.

I DID IT!!!
I knew that graduation was going to be great, but man, it was awesome. I had a lot of fun and just couldn't stop smiling. I was able to sit next to a classmate and chat a bit. The outstanding undergrad chosen to speak gave a great speech about why we study humanities. We lined up and when they said my name, I felt so proud and happy enough to burst. I kept looking up at my family in the seats and my son was smiling at me and my daughter kept blowing me kisses. When accepting the diploma cover, I got to hug a couple of my professors. After the graduation, we headed back to the house and there were a ton of friends there already. We were chatting, laughing, hugging, and the kids were running wild. It was great. As a gift, my parents bought us a new dining set and a new patio set. I'll post pics soon. Most of the LonDolls were there and I finally got to meet Mody's boyfriend. He's from Ecuador and seems really nice. The girls got me a gift card to Barnes and Noble and I was really excited. They know the way to a Word Nerd's heart.
I was having so much fun chatting that I didn't eat until everyone had left. This was seriously one of the very best days ever. I am exhausted, but so happy. We also got good news that my bro-in-law and sis-in-law are expecting a little girl. They have three boys and a little girl, and they are all incredibly cute. Can't wait to see what this one will look like. I better get to bed since I am having a really hard time keeping my eyes open. Hope you're having a great day too.

3 Days Until...
My house is still in shambles, but I'll be busting butt on it today. Whatever I don't finish up, I'm sure my mom will whip out in the first hour she is here. That's how she is, a go-getter. I am so grateful for my parents. They always just expected us to go to school. My mom, having been married twice before meeting my dad, always stressed the importance of being able to take care of yourself and your family. My dad showed me it was possible when I watched him working two jobs, going to class after work, and staying up late to do homework. He wanted to make life better for his family, and worked hard to do it. They have always been really loving and accepting of our decisions in life.
After the graduation, we're going to party back at our house. We'll be BBQing, eating cake, and maybe a little dancing. We party hard around here. As for after graduation, my parents will be staying until Monday and then I start a little side job for my father-in-law. He has a place south of here that he is remodeling and wants me to finish up some painting for him. It will go quick, but he offered to pay me to do it. I also received an interesting email from the university about a job opportunity in the local schools, helping high school students prep for college and informing them about financial aid. It looks like something worth checking out. Other than that, I'll be signing up to substitute teach in the nearby districts. We'll have to see how that works out.
Well, I better get to work on the house. I still need to buy new locks for the windows, storage baskets, and start planning the menu for the rest of the week and the party. Hope you all have as great a week as I will.

A night of Shakespeare
“One Woman Night of Shakespeare”
On Friday, my husband and I attended a performance titled “ A One Woman Night of Shakespeare” by Alex Mackenzie. It was hosted by the Children’s Theatre and School of the Arts. Alex Mackenzie had donated her time and efforts for this performance as a fundraiser for the theatre. Alex is from the UK and has a BA in English Literature and Theatre from Warwick University, UK and an MA in Theatre Studies from BYU. She is not only talented, but is also very kind and amiable (sorry, couldn’t think of another word). The theatre was very intimate, seating only about forty. The performance area came right up to the audience and Alex used this proximity at times to include the audience in her actions. She had pre-selected ten scenes from various plays; including “Macbeth”, “Two Gentlemen of Verona”, “Troilus and Cressida”, “Twelfth Night”, “King Henry the Fifth”, “Midsummer Night’s Dream”, and “King Lear”. She chose to alternate her comedic and tragic performances.
When a scene involved two players, she successfully performed both parts, distinguishing the switch with a whirlwind movement and each character with a distinct voice and air. Her most comedic character was that of Launce from “Two Gentlemen of Verona”. She explained how her regular accent was different from the UK Northerners, which is what Launce was. She then did a wonderful job of performing his monologues, in the Northern accent, with great comedic timing. Her only costume of the night was that of Launce’s, since one scene called for the use of the clothing items. All other scenes did not require costume.
Her most strenuous scenes were those of “Macbeth”. She played out the scenes of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth plotting to kill the king, the murder of the king, Lady Macbeth’s madness, and the final scene with Macbeth. These scenes were the most emotional and physical of the night. Alex would throw herself around, from one character to another, from standing to falling and back again. She would run, flee, and cower in fear and in conviction. She commented after the performance that she had sustained many bruises in these scenes. But her pains were worth the captivating performance she gave.
To close the performance, she ended with King Henry the Fifth’s dramatic monologue in Act IV, Scene III. In this monologue, Henry is telling his men of the pride and honor bestowed upon them to fight this day. It was beautiful and stirring, and called to my mind our servicemen that have fought and still fight today, as brothers.
After the performance, the audience was invited to snack and chat with Alex. She was very gracious in thanking us for coming. I had learned of the performance from a flyer at the Market, where Alex actually works. She thought it was wonderful of us to decide to attend. As difficult as the language of Shakespeare can be to grasp, even the children in attendance were very entertained. She has a wonderful talent of bringing Shakespeare’s words to life.

Some Happiness in the Midst of a Stressful, Caffeine-Filled Week of Finals
--We bought carpet today and scheduled its installation for our upstairs hallway. It had been pulled out after a bathroom flood over a year ago and the old, ugly floorboards have been showing for far too long.
--After watching the movie "Charlotte's Web" the other day, Tiny decided that she was going to read the book. She's already into the second chapter. This is her first chapter book and, being the bookworm that I am, I am SO proud.
--We came across a bakery discount store today just down the street from us. They sell breads, snacks, tortillas, chips, and more at incredibly low prices. We bought 3 loaves of bread, a box of cupcakes, a dozen tortillas, goldfish crackers, some tortilla chips, and some hoagie rolls. The grand total....$4.80. Can't get better than that. I'm definitely headed there again for all our bread needs.
Just thought I would share the happiness and now I have to get back to the homework torture.

2. Who would you rather have dinner with, Harry Potter or Shakespeare? What would happen?
Ooh, tough call. I love them both. I think I would have to pick Harry Potter. Shakespeare's pretty talented, but Harry has that whole "magic" ability in his favor. Who would you rather become friends with? A dead, albeit talented, writer or a friendly wizard that is cute and can fly a broom and is, not to mention, alive. Hopefully, we would have a lovely dinner with a dessert of Knickerbocker Ice Cream (yes, it's real) and fly around London on his Firebolt. He could show me all the magical places that are passed by each day without notice. Then we could use his invisibility cloak to sneak into theaters and to play pranks on people. (27 on the outside but still 13 sometimes on the inside)
3. What's the most important thing someone should notice about you?
I'm a woman of many talents. I can sew a quilt, write a 5 page paper on lit theory, quote numerous films, help my kids with their homework, bake something yummy, prepare a teaching lesson, play a decent game of pool, read any book, and write a poem...all while being able to still dress myself and perform magic with my hair and makeup.
4. If all you had was a box of raw spaghetti, some glue, dryer lint, and a paper plate, what crafts could you make?
I would make emoticon faces using the plate for the head, lint for hair, and the noodles to make the terse expressions...all held together with the glue, of course. Imagine a world without glue, our emoticon faces would slide off the plate everytime without it. How frustrating!
5. Imagine your autobiography is finished. What's the name of the very last chapter?
Since it would be the last chapter, I would probably try to go for being clever and memorable like "Exit, Stage Right" or "At least I'm still sane". But it would probably end up being something more original like "Chapter 29". Gotta appreciate the classic.
I would now like to thank Janna at the newly title Jannaverse for this interview. I really enjoyed it. If anyone would like to carry on this fun, comment that you do and I will send you some interview questions of your own.

27th Bday
I actually didn't feel like I had aged all that fast until I remembered that I am now 27 and I had married at 19. That brought it home with a great big wow. So, how did I celebrate? On Friday, H and I went on a date. We had dinner at my favorite pub and then headed downtown. On our way to a piano bar, we walked past an art gallery that looked interesting. On display that night was a collection of photos of baseball players from about 1920-1950. The owners were a father and son that, over the years, had collected the original glass negatives from the estate sales of sports photographers. Each photo has never been published and had a great story behind it. Our favorite was of Jackie Robinson leaving the Dodgers' clubhouse for the last time. Apparently, Robinson was going to be traded to another team and he didn't want that. He had started as a Dodger and wanted to end as one. The owners wouldn't agree to this, so he retired. On his last day of such a glorious career, he exited the basement locker room, dressed in a suit and long coat, with his bat over his shoulder and his duffle bag hanging off of it. Through the open door, the only one that was there to see him off was a cat, sitting in the path, staring at the camera. I thought it was kind of sad that he didn't receive more fanfare at the end of his career. H said that it showed how classy Robinson was, leaving with a smile and with his dignity. It turned out that that night was also the last night that the gallery was going to be open. The building had been sold and this was their last show. We really enjoyed the show and learned a lot. How often can you see a Ty Cobb baseball bat signed by Pete Rose on the day he broke his homerun record? You can check out the gallery website here, Gallery240. And you can check out the collection here, The Slice of Americana Baseball.
After the gallery, we wandered around downtown and decided to check out a gallery that H's friend owned. However, it wasn't there anymore (shows how often we go there). In the same building, we saw a sign for Art and Soup on the 23rd floor. When we exited the elevator, we quickly realized that it was a black tie event. As we headed back to the elevator, a woman urged us to go in and dance and check out the art. There were about 10 artists there with selections of their work up for sale and also a silent auction on some of the works. Our favorite was an artist that did junk art, Fred Conlon. He made a creature that is like an anti-garden gnome. My favorite of his collection is, unfortunately, not on his site. But picture two anti-gnomes carrying off a traditional garden gnome over their heads, with him tied up. Another was of two anti-gnomes roasting a garden gnome on a spit over a fire pit. It was really funny and something I would love to put in my yard. And that marked the end of our date. I had a really good time.
Saturday, I got to wander the mall on my own and spend a little time and money on myself. I rarely find myself in a mall, but enjoyed it. I bought myself some earrings, a new shirt, and a card for my sister. I'm pretty low maintenance. H and the kids each got me a bday card with a huge bar of chocolate. Later, we also went to a church bbq that was full of food, fun, and karaoke (which I passed on). We then proceeded to fall asleep on the couch for the night. I was woken up by a happy birthday from Tiny and "birthday cuddles" from her. That's a good way to start the day.
Well, I better get to my house since the only thing I have done this weekend on it is pulling weeds in the front yard. This was a lot more work than it sounds, my legs and bum are still sore. Enjoy your Sunday!

Lest We Forget
Putting all politics aside (because we each know how we individually feel about the war), we must always try to keep our troops in our thoughts. These young men and women, for whatever reason, decided to represent their country in times of peace and times of war. Men and women have various reasons for pursuing this career. They join for the promise of an education, to acquire a skill, to find direction and discipline, to better themselves or their situation, or just to know that they gave of themselves for their country. In return for their enlistment, they are not promised a large pay, fancy housing, a steady schedule and future, or even a guarantee of staying alive. What other job would people be willing to volunteer for with that kind of exchange? Don't get me wrong, there are perks to the military life. You have full health benefits, shelter, a steady paycheck, and job security (in the sense that you probably won't get a pink slip in your paycheck anytime soon), and let's not forget the sense of profound pride.
Now, I'm not here to preach or promote. I simply wanted to share a glimpse of the military life and to urge you to remember our troops. Some are working hard stateside while others are in unfamiliar places, far away from everyone and everything they know and love, having to do a near-impossible task. Just remember them and offer a prayer their way.

Another All-Nighter
Good news: I got a theory quiz back with B on it. Nice, I'll take it. And REALLY good news.....MY ANNOUNCEMENTS CAME TODAY!!! They are really nice and each will soon contain a small pic of me in my cap and gown with my tassel hanging proudly in my eye (cause that is where it is naturally supposed to fall). I'm so excited. I read the inscription on the inside of the announcements to H and after I read my name and my degree, I choked up and almost started to cry. He hugged me and I felt so proud. A few more weeks of trudging through these last assignments and it's mine. I will really miss the university though since I am taking about a year off until grad school. It will be weird to not have three or four new classes to have to find, buy books for, and try to survive through in a few weeks. I will be enjoying my visiting family, then catching up around the house while trying to secure some form of employment that won't have me saying, "Price check at register 4." No offense to those in sales, but I've been in that job before and did not take out a ton of education loans to have K-Mart be my only option. (Please don't hunt me down and blind me with your scanners.)
I just finished the first draft of my slideshow presentation and will be editing it tomorrow and practicing before my class tomorrow night. Last minute, I know...story of my life. I am doing my presentation on Eva Péron. It was interesting to learn why she was so loved by her people. I will likely be reading a lot from my note cards, but not as much as some have. If we can get the visual media equipment to work with my comp, we'll be in business.
I have felt so good lately. I told H today that for the last while, anytime I pray I tell the Lord, "Thank you for my life. It's a pretty good one." Despite the stresses of school and sometimes at home, I always feel incredibly blessed. Even with the problems that my brother is experiencing, I hope for the best. We are all healthy and happy, and life challenges us enough to grow. How much more can you ask for?
Ok, I'll ease up on the tender moment for now. I better get back to work.

Friday Five
Today was pretty busy. After helping teach at the junior high, I picked up the kids, went by the bank, and purchased a used treadmill off craigslist. On the way to the bank, Tiny told me that she lost a tooth while chewing her gum. But it wasn't a tooth, it was her filling. Thankfully, the dentist could fit her in about an hour and a half later. Apparently, the tooth (which had had a root canal last year) had cracked. The remaining tooth was pretty loose and they decided to go ahead and pull it. I'm really glad it had no nerves in it. That probably made it much less painful. So, she is one tooth less, awaiting the tooth fairy, and did really well.
School is not getting much easier. But I guess it wouldn't at the end. My language arts professor decided to rearrange the remainder of our syllabus and also cut out a day. This should be interesting. We will be assigned our final theory paper on Tuesday. I have to prep my oral presentation for Spanish this weekend and will present on Wednesday. We will also be practicing for our final oral composition. I'm mainly just aiming to pass that, not worried about doing stellar on it. I'm praying for strength.
By the way, I purchased my cap and gown a couple of days ago. I am graduating in Humanities and, therefore, have a white tassel. I told H that I got a little emotional when I got them. I'm going to cry like a baby when I walk the stage and they say my name.
So, for the theme today...I have chosen the Friday Five. The Five are random bits of info about me or any other random subject I pick. You never know what will show up in this one. For the inaugural Friday, it will be:
5 Things You May Not Know About Me (and probably didn't want to)
1. The first poem I ever wrote was about a football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions, in which the Lions won. Story behind this: our principal LOVED the Cowboys and my parents HATED them. Every morning, the principal would choose some poems written by students to read over the intercom. So, I decided to write a poem about the game, dogging the Cowboys, of course, and give it to him. Obviously, he didn't read it. But that started my interest in poetry.
2. I have a butterfly tattoo on my back. I have posted a pic of this before. I got it about a week after I turned 18 and had originally planned to get a tatto of a vine of sunflowers around my thigh. However, I was informed that the black vine would take more than one visit to get dark enough. So, I got a butterfly instead. And in case you're wondering...no, it doesn't really hurt, just sore.
3. I LOVE my hair. I hated it for years when I was younger. This was mainly because it got really curly as I aged and I had no idea what to do with it. Now, thanks to it calming down and the miracle of the flat iron, I LOVE it. I have a lot of fun with it and am trying to grow it back out.
4. I had a major crush on Joey Lawrence when he was on the show "Blossom". I remember swooning when he put out his own music video. I, of course, had pics of him on my walls, cut out from those teen mags. Quite a fashion flashback, eh?!
5. I've watched "The Goonies" enough times to have it memorized. I'm surprised we didn't wear out the VHS (yes, I said VHS) it was recorded on.
Hope you enjoyed this little revealment of me.

Theatrical Thursday with The Goonies
The shower was a lot of fun and Nobby really made out on the gifts. I, of course, along with Mody, had to embarass her and buy the naughty stuff. I got her a journal with sensual quotes, two thongs and an edible body powder. Mody got her some breath freshener that was a total spoof cause it said that it was Irish and would give you fresh breath and an Irish accent. She also got her something to spray on your bed sheets that would smell good and freshen them up for what ensues. Another friend of Nobby's got her a ton of lingerie. It was a lot of fun watching her turn red.
After loading up the gifts in the cars, we joked that it would be funny to move Nobby's car, which was running, and make her think it was taken. But this backfired when she didn't look down the street, where it was parked, ran into the house and called 911. Apparently, there has been a history of cars stolen and broken into at this house and she thought it was for real. We had to tell her it was a joke and she hung up. 911, of course, called back and she explained what had happened. Thankfully, the operator had a sense of humor and jokingly offered to have the prankster arrested temporarily. Other than that horrible failure of a joke, it was a fun party.
So, on to the theme for the day. I think I may have to go with Theatrical Thursday.

Television Tuesday...Part I
The answer is, "No, not for the next four weeks anyway."
I just finished preparing a lesson presentation for tomorrow....er, today. And I read three chapter for theory for a quiz today. Not an easy feat. My week is unfolding as such:
Monday--Spanish class. Forget to write composition draft for Spanish. Beg teacher for extension, which is granted til Wednesday. Stay up until 6am prepping for theory quiz and language arts presentation.
Tuesday--6am and still jittery from energy drink. Quiz in theory. Presentation in Language Arts. Start composition for Spanish with Mody's help. Dinner at brother-in-law's house (different one than on Sunday). Finish composition in the wee hours.
Wednesday--Shop for Hobby's bridal shower gifts; one practical gift and one naughty. Spanish class. Composition due. Begin preparing Spanish presentation and slideshow for next week.
Thursday--Theory. Language Arts. Three lesson plans due (completed already...for once). Hobby's shower that night.
Friday--Student teach at junior high. Pick up kids. Try to shop for Easter, which I completely forgot was this weekend. Work on presentation more with Mister's help. I have no idea how to use powerpoint and my 10 year old son does.
Saturday--Clean house. Shop for Easter dinner. More homework.
Sunday--EASTER!!!
That's my week in a nutshell. It has a nice balance of fun and brain cramps. I can't believe how much I got done tonight. And all it took was sacrificing a night's sleep. I'm going to rue that decision at approximately 2pm today. I just hope I don't drool on the window of the train on the way home. I am motivated to get through this month like I have never been before in any semester. They are having a bookstore graduation fair at the campus tomorrow. I am going to buy my cap, gown, and tassel and I will also be ordering my announcements. I told H that I wanted to get the generic announcements with my name card because they were cheaper and faster to order. But I am planning on getting some photos taken of me in my cap and gown to place in the announcements. I can't believe this is actually happening, and so soon. I'm loving every minute, no matter how stressful it can get in these last few weeks.

Weekend Summary
The catch 22 of a good weekend of cleaning and socializing is that I usually haven't touched my homework. And that is the case right now. I have a presentation due in my language arts class that I have yet to start. It's really hard to have to compromise between a clean house and homework. I hate to see one suffer, but am only able to do so much at once. 4 more weeks, 4 more weeks has become my mantra.
The above was typed yesterday and it is now Sunday.
We just got back from my brother-in-law's house for dinner. It was really good food and great company. Among the guests was a woman that H used to date in high school and her husband. H's latest client is buying their house and we invited them to the dinner tonight. They're a pretty nice couple. Dinner didn't agree with me however, and I'm not having a good time right now. Will post more later. Got some homework to do, laundry to wash, and about a million more trips to the loo. Good night.

Papers, B's, and Music
Good News: I got my last Spanish test back and I actually pulled off a B. That's pretty much a miracle considering that I was sure I had bombed it completely. Not bad, not bad at all. My composition, however, did not fare as well since it was too short. It got an embarassingly low grade. Thankfully the final grades for the tests count for a larger percentage than the compositions do.
Well, it's late and I definitely need the sleep.

A Morsel
"The architecture was reminiscent of the brownstones of New York. But the doorways were too flat. The exterior of the building did not embrace you as you climbed up the steps. It did not invite you into its history or whisper its unique personality into your senses. It was a cost-efficient clone, an effort at nostalgia that fell flat, as flat as its doorways."
Got any thoughts? Share.
MY MUSIC MEME...Thanks, Janna!
1. "We Belong Together" Mariah Carey
This song is one of the few that I really like of hers since about the mid-90's. I don't think she's taking full advantage of her remarkable voice anymore. Listen to her first career CD and then compare to her recent work and you might agree.
2. "Tell Me" Groove Theory
I like this song cause it's a mellow beat that still makes you bop your head. It's a good, simple song.
3. "She's Like the Wind" VibeKingz feat. Maliq
Yes, that song from Dirty Dancing. But this is a new version with a good beat and a new spin. I heard it on my way home from school a few months ago, looked it up, and have been playing it since. If you look it up, it has a good video too.
4. "Crowded" Jeannie Ortega feat. Papoose
I blast this in my car occasionally. It's a fun beat with tough girl lyrics (sorta). Fun to dance to.
5. "Need You Tonight" INXS
I'm old enough to remember when this was first released and it was pretty popular. But when I hear this song, I remember the scene from Coyote Ugly where Violet tricks Kevin into dancing on the bar.
6. "It's Not Over" Chris Daughtry
I was really pulling for this guy on American Idol, but am kinda glad that he didn't win. His success will now be based on the recognition of his raw talent and not because of a popularity contest that is now tainted by plots to pick the winners based on anything but talent. (Sorry, had to let that out a little.) He's got a great, raw voice like some of the best rockers and not to mention that he's nice to look at.
7. "Popular" Wicked Soundtrack
I had throw in something off-the-wall. I really do listen to this often though. While in London, some of the girls were obsessed with this musical and would dance around the flat singing this song. What was funny was that one of the girls actually had a high voice like Kristin Chenoweth.
So, there it is folks. My musical taste runs pretty rampant through all genres. Yes, even a tiny (really tiny) bit of rap. I invite you to check out my playlists to enjoy the variety.
So, now the part you've been dreading, I mean anticipating. I get to tag others with this fun meme. I think I will choose...

The Death of a Beautiful Woman
A Moment for Procrastination
As for summer classes, I was looking up the classes needed for a math endorsement last week. Due to prerequisites for the courses needed, I can't see myself actually going forward with the math. The prereqs will double the courses, including some higher level math that I didn't plan on. I don't have it in me. I like math, but only to a certain degree, then I'm just hopeless. It looks like I will be taking a short break from school until I enter grad school next year. I haven't skipped any semesters for about 3 years. What will I do, you ask? WORK. I haven't worked a continuous job in about 2 years. Even then, I don't think I've ever worked anywhere for longer than 6 months. Not very promising, huh? I plan to substitute teach starting in the fall and continuing through spring. For the summer, I may delve into that home staging/organizing opportunity. Work will definitely be necessary though since my student loans will be going into repayment. No fun.
Well, I've successfully delayed my paper for about 15 more minutes. No more excuses. Hope you have a better day than I will.

Spring Has Sprung
Back to yesterday...I was sitting in a camping chair, soaking up the sun and feeling quite drowsy. I drifted off and took a wonderfully restful nap while the sun slowly shifted in the sky and began to bathe my face as well as my body. I awoke feeling quite pleasant, and also a bit sweaty. It was wonderful. In the air hung the aroma of BBQ from a neighboring yard. Spring has finally arrived, and if that lingering nap and aroma are any indication, it is going to be a beautiful season.

My Pleasure(s)
House: Interesting story lines, especially with men this good-looking. I saw Hugh Laurie in Stuart Little and in some BBC shows. For some reason, he wasn't nearly as sexy playing a nice guy.
London: This study abroad was the best thing I have ever done (behind hubby and kiddos). I loved every minute of it and would do it again in a second.
Aston Martin: Ok, so I don't have an Aston Martin and I probably never will. But it sure is nice to look at and its hum quickens the pulse.
George Strait: I've adored this man for some time. George Strait has had over 50 #1 hits in his career, more than any other artist, in any genre. Not to mention that he looks great in his Wranglers.

Movies: Now, if I was asked what my favorite movie genre was, I would say Comedy or Action. But, ironically, my two favorite movies are Romantic Comedies, which I would have listed last. But I could watch these movies over and over and over again.
Long Hair: I can't believe how long my hair grew when I was in London. I think it was only this long because I couldn't afford to visit the salon. I'm currently trying to grow it out again. It's kinda sexy like this.
Heroes: Can we say "addiction"? I've been completely sucked into this story and am counting the days until the new episodes.
Graduation: I will be walking that line in about 6 weeks to get my Bachelors. It will be the conclusion of about 9 years of work; through babies, work, and breaks. I'm predicting tears.
Tees and Games: I love funny t-shirts. I browse a few websites regularly that sell hilarious tees. I'll have to post them soon. Simultaneously, I really am a word nerd. I love word games and am usually the designated "spell check" for my husband. Once I read a word, it's in my head permanently...like a photographic memory, but only with words.Thursday, March 22, 2007
Real Moms...
Are the only ones who remember to bring sunscreen to a day at the speedway.Don't change much, even with "grand" in front of the their name.
Know when to bring the camera.
Real Moms also have wicked stretch marks, but I'm not ready to bare all on my blog yet. Plus, I can usually hide my mommy-body side effects pretty well, don't you think?Tuesday, March 20, 2007
Touche
"No," he exclaimed.
"Why not? Why can't I cut it?" I asked.
"Do you know how to cut hair?" he asked.
"No," I replied.
To which he stated, "That's why not."
"Touche."
I'm raising him well.

I'M BAAAACK!

Nobby, the bride, was wearing a hotsy totsy outfit consisting of a very short black skirt, lacy black top, and black stilletos. All of this was complimented with wings, a halo, and a "Bride To Be" button. About a million snapshots later, we finally headed out the door for dinner. We ate Thai and it was fab. Again, we took another million snaptshots of each other in our garb.
After dinner, we headed the "The Church", a very popular club situated in an old cathedral-like church. It had three levels of music, in-house dancers and a fashion show, and a sushi bar. It was pretty impressive. We stuck together, danced to some body shaking music, and avoided creepy old men on the dance floor. We stayed until about 12:30. I know that is pretty early, but one gal doesn't like clubs, another's feet were killing her, and you have to remember that we're Mormon and don't drink. We had our fun and headed out. On our way out, we witnessed a man layed out on the sidewalk, bleeding profusely from his head and shoulder. Apparently, he was pretty drunk and fell off the terrace that is about a good 11 feet tall. He had plenty of help and maybe a little more common sense after that. We went home, changed, and fell asleep after chatting.
Saturday, we awoke to a gourmet breakfast of yogurt parfaits and quiche (Hobby is in a culinary academy). It was delicious. We took our time getting ready for the day and having fun just talking and joking around. We drove to Boulder and visited Pearl Street. Apparently, this street is featured in the new movie "Catch and Release" with Jennifer Garner. It is a long pedestrian street full of shops and restaurants, music and street performers. It was great to walk through so many eclectic clothing, record, and home decor shops. The only thing I bought was a journal that has "seductive" quotes about love, lust, and life. I can't resist a great quote. After the shopping, we ate a late lunch at a pub. Then we went for dessert of crepes that were not that great, but better than the service where we got them. Before seeing a movie, we killed time at Brookstone in the massage chairs. Nobby found an exercise device that when used properly, resembles bullriding and a bit naughty. We laughed quite a lot about that. The movie was picked by Nobby also and was "Premonition". This was awful. Four of us left the movie depressed and a bit traumatized. It was bad enough that Nobby can't pick the movies anymore. Needless to say, she was teased mercilessly for the rest of the night about that movie. We went home, watched a happy movie and fell asleep.
Sunday, we got up later, ate another gourmet breakfast of swedish pancakes and sausage links and eggs with bacon. We got ready for afternoon church and left about 1pm for it. After church, we went home, changed, and hung out. We were served baked pasta shells with meat sauce and cheeses, rolls, and salad. We played a game for a while, watched movies, and I had a visit from a high school friend that is living in Denver. I haven't seen her in about 3 years and that was only for a few hours. Before that, I hadn't seen her in about 7 years. It was a nice short visit. Me and the girls then exchanged some pics on cds, packed, and crashed. We left early this morning and are now back home. I picked the kids up from school and Tiny ran into my arms when she saw me. I missed them a lot. H let me know he really missed me too. For the rest of the day, we showed two houses to some clients/friends, then picnicked with them. I am one tired woman. But I had a blast this weekend. The other girls did too.
I am now eating this:

And thinking of this:

Goodnight!

Many Blessings Coming My Way
1. Today, I started teaching a class at church. I will be doing this once a month. I was nervous, but I really enjoyed it and was told by many of the ladies at church that I did well.
2. This Friday, me and the LonDolls will be loading up my car and roadtripping to Denver. I see mixed CDs, lots of junk food, and a ton of laughs coming my way.
3. Friday, I got an advertisement from my university bookstore for my graduation garb. It hit me that in less than two months, I will be walking that line and it will be the completion of a long journey. I fully plan on having a HUGE party afterwards; family, friends, and a lot of music and food. Not to mention that my parents will be here! I can't wait to send out the invitations and buy my cap and gown. Yay!
Man, I have a lot of blessings coming my way and a lot of work in between. Is there any better way to be? This is great.
Weekend Update
I then did the same thing to her kids' closet. And finally, I organized her washroom shelves, which housed gift bags to cleaning products. By then, we had been cleaning for about 5 hours, so I took the kiddos to eat and went home. But I have to say, I completely enjoyed myself. It felt really good to do some hard, physical work for a change. I'm usually spending my time on reading texts and writing papers. That side of my brain definitely needed a break. So, that night me and the kids rented movies and got pizza.
Saturday, I had promised the kids that I would take them to see "Happy Feet" at the dollar theater. So, we went to an 11:30 show. Afterwards, I hit a secondhand clothing store that I LOVE for a new(ish) pair of jeans. My last pair from there are completely worn out (button is missing and both knees are naked). The kids were good to put up with this little excursion. After trying on a few things, I found a great pair of jeans that are really long (bonus) and a LONG red shirt that is super cute and perfect for going clubbing for the Hen Party. Tiny was in the dressing room with me and she let me know that she didn't really like the shirt because she said it's not big enough for my belly. Ouch. So, I'll do some crunches before I leave. It's worth it.
H called after I spent too much money and asked if I could come cover his open house for a little while so he could show some houses. I quickly put on my cute new outfit with some heels and headed over. I had about 5 people come through while I was there and I had fun chatting with them and showing them around. We closed up the open house at 4 pm and H asked us to come with him to show some houses since he was tired and fading fast from helping the clients finish up their house at 7am. He didn't think he would be able to drive for long, so we tagged along. We were tracking down addresses and walking around houses for about two hours.
We then drove around for over an hour trying to find an Applebee's that wasn't crammed full of people waiting for a table. We had a delicious meal, dessert, and then headed to the dollar theater (the second trip for me and the kids that day). We (I) decided on Rocky Balboa. Mock me if you must, but it's a classic series. I LOVE the fact that Sylvester Stallone wrote the movies. While I greatly enjoyed this last installment, I felt that in parts of the story, the writing felt rushed and unresolved. But this comes from someone who has yet to write a full story. The kids were exhausted from the day and didn't even make it half way through the movie. The movie ended after midnight, we went home, and collapsed on the couch.
As busy and enjoyable as the weekend has been, I have not done a lick of homework or housework. The weekend is about to start and I am already behind. They really need to make 3-4 day weekends the norm.

Life and Some of its Perks
Other news: The LonDolls are set to go to Colorado for our break. And for the hen party, we will be dressing up as an angel (the bride) and devils (the rest of us). The bride is pretty excited and it should be good fun. I'm just praying that the weather will agree with our travel.
Sidenote: I stopped by the grocery store on the way home from class to pick up a few things. While loading my stuff at the register, I let the guy behind me go ahead since he only had two things. When I was loading up my car afterwards, he pulled beside me in his and told me, "I just wanted to tell you that you are extremely attractive. You probably get that all the time." I, of course, smile and blush. I told him thank you and that I appreciated that. The first thing that popped into my mind though was that my husband tells me that often. It's nice to be complimented like that by someone, but it always feels the best when H tells me that I look really nice or when he checks me out. It makes me feel really good and I know that he is telling me the truth. If I'm not sure about an outfit or a hairdo, I will ask him and know that I am getting an honest opinion. No, I am not always thrilled when he tells me something isn't working, but I'm glad to know that he's honest about it. But it sure feels good when he is liking what he sees.

Maybe I'll Graduate Before Menopause?!?
I didn't find out about this program until last fall. It's for students that have a bachelors in a subject that is taught in secondary education, eg. math, science, English, but have no teaching credentials or degree. It is a short Masters program that covers your teaching requirements and student teaching all in about a year. I was pretty excited when I heard about it. Some of the requirements include a personal statement, two letters of recommend, certain gpa, and certain scores on two entrance exams. By the time I found about the program, the application deadline was only about 3 months away. So, I signed up for the next exams, paid extra because I missed the application deadlines, and took them after only a few days of studying. Fast forward a month later, the scores come back, and I narrowly missed the required score on one test and didn't score high enough in one section of the other exam. Ok, I decided to try the one with sections again, pay the late fee again (since I had to wait for my scores to know if I would even have to take it again), and take the test again, mainly focusing on that section since I already passed the others. Another month passes, I find out I still didn't score high enough.
By this time, it's less than a month until the deadline, I have no time to take it again, not to mention that I am also already over $400 lighter because of all the fees. So, after much anger, depression and resentment, I decided that I would have to wait until next year to try again. Fast forward to today in class, my prof informs us that the grad school decided to extend the deadline until one month from now. Apparently, this was decided a month ago, but wasn't circulated very well. I was LIVID! I could have scheduled the exams again and been compiling my application.
So, I went to the program advisor, chatted with her about the situation and asked for her take on my options and chances. She told me that it largely depends on the number of applicants, how much more eligible they are, and how many are entering the same field as me (which is English aka the most popular and populated subject for teachers). On the upside, I did excellent on the other two of the three sections of the test. So, she said I had two options:
1. Play the about 50-50 odds and apply for the program with my new test results pending, but spend a lot of money again.
OR
2. Do as I planned and prep for applying next year. The upside is that I can apply with the more desirable math credentials that I would take between now and then along with the English I already have. The downside is that they are seriously considering changing the entire program and may not offer it next year.
I'm so vexed. I don't know what to do yet. I abhor the idea of having to wait another year, but I also know through watching some friends in the same field that if I only have the English credentials, I won't be highly marketable and it will be hard to find a job. Ugh. I'm trying to think positively about the fact that I even have the opportunity to go to school. But I have been in school going on 9 years soon and I AM TIRED! I want to be done, work, and contribute my skills to my classes and my paycheck to our debt. I want to put all this knowledge to use already.
And if that isn't enough for me to ponder, I have two tests, two papers, a workbook, and a presentation all due in the next week and a half. Please, someone throw me in a class of unwilling high schoolers already. Just kidding. All in good time.
